- with respect to V.34 modems affecting each other, they affect each other's
- settings a gread deal (lowest common denominator for compatibility)and they can
- also affect each other's performance (not good). Cheap modems' harmonic
- distortion is likely to limit performance on both sides of the link and both
- modems are likely to select a lower speed than the channel itself would allow.
- Allowing the tx and rx rates to stay independent of each other is one of the
- most visible and valuable features. Your connect message reflects the RX rate
- on your end.
